India is gearing up for the Omicron mutant of COVID-19 virus by exercising caution. From genome sequencing to mandatory quarantine to RT-PCR tests, local authorities have announced a slew of precautionary measures.
The good news is that the vaccination drive is in full swing, India’s cumulative vaccination coverage has exceeded 1.23 billion, with over 31 per cent of its population fully vaccinated and nearly 4.2 million people being vaccinated in the last twenty-four hours.
As per the revised guidelines for international travellers in india, here is what you need to know before travelling to India:
- International travellers entering India have to submit 14-days travel details and upload a negative RT-PCR test report on the Air Suvidha portal before their journey.
- Travellers from countries in the ‘at-risk’ (click here for the list) category will have to take the post-arrival covid test and wait for results at the airport. They will have to go through a 7 day home quarantine, if tested negative for the virus and take up a re-test on the eighth day. If tested negative, they will have to further self-monitor for the next 7 days.
- Travellers from countries excluding the ‘at risk’ category will be allowed to leave the airport and require to self-monitor health for 14 days’ post-arrival.
- Children under 5 years of age are exempted from pre- and post- arrival testing unless found symptomatic for COVID-19.
- Genomic surveillance for variants is to be further strengthened and intensified.
- 5% of a flight’s total number of passengers will have to undergo random-testing on arrival at airports.
Revised guidelines for international arrivals in India will come into effect from December 1, 2021.
