Maharashtra Government imposes ban on alcohol consumption at forts

The Maharashtra Government issued a government resolution (GR) imposing ban on consumption of alcohol at ancient forts in the stare. This move comes in the wake of taking precautionary measures to prevent alcohol abuse.

As per the resolution, those found committing the offence for the first time could attract a fine of INR 10000 and six months imprisonment under Section 85 of the Maharashtra Ban on Liquor Act 1949, upon violating the order. Further, those found committing the offence for the second time will be liable to face imprisonment of one year along with a fine of INR 10000.

Referring to this development, Maharashtra Tourism Minister welcomed the said decision of banning liquor consumption at ancient forts, stating that they are the pillar of their strength and devotion.
