Ever since the first expedition in the 1950’s, the Everest region has been a popular destination for mountaineers and trekkers alike.
With a near monopoly on the world’s highest peaks- eight of the top ten are within Nepal’s borders. Nepal remains one of the most spectacular places on the planet for trekking and adventure.
Everest Base Camp Trek
For most trekkers this trek to Base Camp of the highest mountain in the world, Mt Everest (8848.48 meters) is in their bucket list. Accommodations and food in this region can be said to be amongst the best in all trek regions of Nepal. It also has options of using higher standard/ category of accommodations hence it gives trekkers more choices compared to other trek regions. The trek can be completed in12 days (Kathmandu to Kathmandu) and has options of making it longer with combinations of places to visit or do climbing to the trekking peaks like Island peak, Lobuche peak etc. The highest altitude we reach on this trek is at the viewpoint of Kala Pathar standing at 5,545 meters.
Around Annapurna Trek
The Annapurna circuit or also called Around Annapurna trail takes us through an epic trek – from lush green valleys to the arid Himalayan desert, mountain glaciers to gushing rivers, stunning peaks of the some of the highest peaks of the world, including Annapurna I, II, and III, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche to name a few. Annapurna region receives the most trekkers in all of the national parks of Nepal.
Accommodations and food are also good in this region. The trek can be completed in 12 to 13 days (Kathmandu to Kathmandu) with one way flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. With guest who have more time it also has an option of extending the trek to 15 to 20 days. The highest altitude we cross on this trek is Thorang La (5,416m) Pass.
Ghandrung / Ghorepani (Poon Hill) Trek
The Ghandrung / Ghorepani (Poon Hill) trek is popular owing to the following reasons – it offers stunning vistas of the mighty Mt. Annapurnas and the surrounding Himalayan peaks, it offers a fascinating peek into the Gurung culture of Nepal, and lastly, it is not as physically challenging in terms of duration and altitude. This trek for many is an introduction to the magnificent experience that is trekking.
Accommodations and food are good on this trek. This trek can be completed in 4/5 days (Pokhara to Pokhara) with option of extending to just over a week. The highest altitude we reach on this trek is at the viewpoint of Poon Hill, 3210 meters
Langtang trek
The Langtang National Park lies north of Kathmandu valley. On this trek the landscapes we cross are extremely varied; rice-terraces, gigantic rhododendron, pine forest, and in the highest parts, a rock and shrub wilderness with the fascinating backdrop of snowcapped peaks.
Accommodations and food are good on this trek. Kathmandu to Kathmandu takes 7/8 days and for those who have the luxury of time the trek can be extended to just over two weeks (15 days) with a visit to the holy lake of Gosaikunda and then crossing the Lauribina La pass (4610 m). The highest point on this trek has an option of reaching just below 5000 meters on a day visit.
Pikey Peak Trek
This trek which takes about 7/8 days to complete starting from Kathmandu and back to Kathmandu falls in the Soul Khumbu region of Nepal. Being a fairly new trek, the accommodations are basic but neat and tidy. The highest altitude on this trek is 3600 meters. Trekking to Pikey peak means having the opportunity to engage with the local people to discover their way of life, traditions, culture and come across some ancient and beautiful monasteries with Buddhist Stupas along the trek route.
